Curry Mile, Manchester
Manchester is home to restaurants from all over the world and there are many restaurants across the city selling cuisine from the Asian Sub-continet – Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi cuisine. Many of the shops in the area sell ‘Asian sweets’ such as Burfi and Halwa. However, it is the wide range of restaurants in the Curry Mile in Rusholme that makes this area so well known regionally, nationally and world wide. The first thing that strikes you about the Curry Mile is that the whole area has an atmosphere of its own. At night the area is illuminated by flashing neon signs of every type and description. The owners from many of the restaurants there stand outside and gently try to persuade passers by to eat in their restaurants. The area is thriving most evenings and restaurants remain open late into the night.
However, perhaps the most amazing thing about the Curry Mile is that visitors have the opportunity to experience a wide range of South Asian cuisine. The choice is considerable and includes Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine. There are restaurants to suit a variety of budgets, ranging from take aways through to quality restaurants. (Remember, for religious reasons not all restaurants in the Curry Mile serve alcohol. So it is worth checking before you order, if that is important to you.) The Curry Mile in Rusholme is very popular with peple living in Manchester and is a major attraction for visitors from all over the world. The Mile is also popular with Manchester’s sizable student population as it is close to the student areas of the city.
