Futuresonic, the Urban Festival of Art, Music & Ideas comes to Manchester, from the 13th to the 16th May 2009.
Futuresonic is a four day festival that brings together digital culture and music. The event involves 300 artists and there will be around 100 events at 30 different venues.
This event is expected to be very popular. This year, event organisers expect in the region of 50,000 visitors.
Futuresonic is not one but four interconnected festivals. The four festivals, or festival strands, cover art, music, an ideas conference and events.
In brief these are:-
Art – this years theme is Environment 2.0 and a lot of the events will be taking place at a variety of locations including Cube (Centre for the Urban Built Environment) Gallery on Portland Street in Manchester city centre. Some exhibitions will continue until 23rd April.
Music – performances will take place at a variety of locations in the city. Musical genres will include dubstep, contemporary classical, lo-fi indie and electronica.
Conference – this ideas conference will explore in depth, today’s digital culture. Around 500 opinion formers are expected to attend this full programme of discussions and presentations taking place in Manchester’s Contact Theatre.
EVNTS (Events) – EVNTS showcases the best new and original events, performances and creative happenings. This year more than 25 EVNTS are planned.
