Charles Darwin Bicentenary 2009 Celebrations in Manchester
2009 is the bicentenary of the birth of Charles Darwin who was born on 12th February 1809. Darwin was an English naturalist and author of the classic book On the Origin of Species, which outlined his view of the theory of evolution.
2009 is also the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species.
In celebration of Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of On the Origin of Species, there are a range of events being held across the UK. In Manchester the following events have been announced:-

Artists explore the relationships between animals and human beings in this exhibition which includes work by Nicolas Primat, Kira O’ Reilly, Antony Hall and Ruth Mclennan.

An exhibition showing how Darwin’s research and writing on barnacles, beagles and bishops all contributed to the famous Origin of the Species. The exhibition includes a collection of 24 early editions of Darwin’s works revealing how the theory of evolution developed.
