Manchester’s rich cultural, historical and political heritage will be celebrated at the Manchester Histories Festival, on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st March 2009 at Manchester Town Hall. (Friday is set aside for schools to attend.)

The Festival will offer visitors the chance to find out more about Manchester’s past and its historical importance as the worlds first industrial city.

The Festival is a partnership between the  University of Manchester, Manchester, Metropolitan University and Manchester City Council.

The Festival will include a large number of displays around Manchester Town Hall on a range of themes including Manchester’s contribution to music, medicine, science, and education.

There will also be displays by galleries, museums and archives in the city. Local history sessions, historical walks by Blue Badge Guides and local history lectures are a few of the many attractions planned for the day.

It is hoped that the Festival will become an annual event.

The event has its own website which has up to date infromation about the Festival. To find out more about Manchester Histories Festival visit ManchesterHistoriesFestival.org.uk
